Watchers

Hey so summer's coming up pretty quickly, and I'm considering making a plush or two depending on my schedule. Digging into my list, I've noticed just how many ideas I've got here (I've been adding far more than I thought, and making on average a plush a year at this rate).

Part of my process is sketching the plushes out as how I'd want them, and then making rough flat patterns to see how it would work. I actually do this for roughly 4 different plushes at a time and only use one idea.

A lot of people have been asking me for patterns, and I always say no. But I'm considering putting up sketches and stuff onto my art blog if people are curious for ideas, or to watch potentially a plush work in progress from scratch. I'll do my best to put accurate flat patterns up so if people want to use them, they can, but it's somewhat difficult to be completely accurate without making the plush myself (I've told people over and over again half the reason I don't give patterns is because I work trial-and-error).

If this is something you'd be interested in, feel free to comment here and let me know. I wouldn't mind doing it seeing how many people have asked.

A question: what pokemon do you think would be easier for a beginner to attempt? (I have a habit of trying to run before I can walk so to speak)

There's a lot I want to make, the ones I want to make most are: Shiny Dragonair, Vulpix, Serperior, Eevee, Mew, Shadow Lugia, Ninetales and Shiny Espeon (plus 18 others), and I want to make them life size, except Lugia will have to be smaller.

Well....lets see. Life size will be a problem for a few of those, such as serperior and dragonair.

Pattern though, Dragonair would be the easiest. Snake-like bodies are easy, you really just need one long piece for the belly, and two pieces for the back (one for bottom one for top makes an awkward shape), the two back pieces would have a "spine" seam, if you can picture that.

I'd say start with that before moving onto others.

I have a quick question, if you don't mind- what do you think is the best way to conceptualize from 2D to 3D? I have made a couple plushies before, but I'm more of a "sew by hand" type of person and most of my 3D work just looks....weird. It's easy to make stuff that won't eventually need to be stuffed, but when it comes to something that is going to be more round, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?
